Getting married at Dreams Playa Mujeres

Beach wedding setup at Dreams Playa Mujeres, Cancun Mexico

If you're bringing a large group to Cancún and you care about the beach actually being usable, Dreams Playa Mujeres is one of the first properties I look at. Here's the honest breakdown — what the wedding packages include, what a room block really costs, and who this resort is and isn't right for.

Quick Facts

LocationPlaya Mujeres, ~30 min north of Cancún airport
Guests welcomeAll ages — families and kids
Beach directionNorth-facing (far less sargassum)
Best forGroups of 30–150 with families
My takeBest all-ages option on the clean-water side

Why I recommend it for larger weddings

The beach is the reason. Sargassum seaweed arrives on a current running from the southeast, so it piles onto east-facing shores — Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and most of the Cancún hotel zone. Playa Mujeres faces north, which puts it outside that current. During April through August, when most destination weddings happen, that difference is dramatic.

The second reason is capacity. A lot of beautiful resorts quietly fall apart at 80 guests. This property has the room inventory, the venue options, and the on-site wedding team to handle a real group without your guests being scattered across three buildings.

What the wedding packages actually include

Every resort advertises a "free" wedding package, and every one of them has a ceiling. Here's what to actually look at:

What I do differently: I don't quote you the published package. I go to the resort's group sales manager with your actual guest count and dates, and negotiate the package alongside the room block. When you're bringing 40 rooms, the resort has real room to move — and most couples never find out because they never ask.

What a room block here really costs

Room block pricing shifts with season, guest count, and how far ahead you contract. What matters more than the nightly rate is the contract terms:

Who this resort isn't right for

If you want adults-only, this isn't it — look at Excellence Playa Mujeres or Atelier Playa Mujeres, both on the same stretch of coastline. If you want walkable nightlife outside the resort, you're better off in the Cancún hotel zone. And if your group is under 20, you may get better value at a smaller property.

I'd rather tell you that up front than book you somewhere you'll regret.

Best time of year

November through April is peak — best weather, highest rates. May through August is warmer and better priced, but sargassum season builds as summer goes on, so lean early. September and October are hurricane season; the value is real but so is the risk, and travel insurance stops being optional.
